Is classical poetry too hard for a beginner?

Yes, if you try to read it straight through without help. Start with short, modern poems or translated snippets to build your confidence before tackling the heavy hitters.

Can I use poetry to improve my pronunciation?

Absolutely. Because poetry relies so heavily on rhythm and vowel length, reciting it forces you to pay attention to the exact sounds, which is great for your accent.

Do modern Arabs actually read this stuff?

They certainly do! While they speak in dialects in daily life, classical poetry and high literature are deeply respected and widely studied in schools and universities.

How do I know which poets to start with?

I recommend starting with modern poets like Mahmoud Darwish. His language is beautiful and profound, but it's much more grounded in contemporary structure than the ancient poets.

Will learning poetry help me with my grammar?

Indirectly, yes. You'll start to see how complex grammatical structures are used naturally to create rhythm, which helps your "ear" for the language.
